Life on the Farm
Olepangi Farm is a beautiful, tranquil space, bordered by giant conservation reserves and offers a chance for our guests to slow down and re-connect with nature, relax by our pool, enjoy our organic food or to get involved with farm daily life and our horses.and time again - they are part of our extended family.
Horses are a favourite part of farm life. We have horses to suit every level of rider and a growing breeding programme producing beautiful youngsters. Join us for rides around the farm, with views of Mount Kenya or out into the local community. Rides further afield into local wildlife conservancies are also possible for more advanced riders but need a little advance notice. Or try out polo chukkas on our polo ponies before sundowner drinks on the Olepangi bush polo pitch.
Eating well is central to life on the farm and we are really proud to offer our guests exceptional food, homegrown or locally produced wherever possible. It can be as causal or as formal as you like, our chef team supported by visiting culinary artists in residence are just here to make you happy.
Petal, Izzy and Anna (to name a few!), our Jersey cows roam freely on the farm and produce our daily milk. Head chef Jospeh and his team turn this into the most delicious butter, yoghurt and ice cream.
Our ever expanding vegetable garden is overseen by Obama and supplies nearly all of the salad and vegetables consumed on the farm. From pomegranate and avocado trees, to spinach and herbs, we’re passionate about ensuring our guests enjoy the freshest, organic produce we can offer.
Chef Jospeh creates new menus daily based on what looks good and supplements with produce from the neighbouring farms, confident that the quality will be high. We have taken the philosophy that we won't kill our animals here on the farm so we have carefully sourced meat, prioritising care and quality. As an example our beef comes from a 32000 acre neighbouring farm.
We are always trying to expand what we can produce on the farm and our latest addition are our bees - they are a little slow to get going but the early honey suggests that it will be wonderful.
Experiencing the rhythms of the farm
There is always so much to do in the daily rhythm of farm life. Join our joyful garden team early in the morning as they begin the day gathering fresh organic produce from our garden, which will miraculously appear on your plate at lunch and dinner and flowers for the rooms and tables. Then help head chef Jospeh and his team with their daily bread making and be the first to taste the fresh bread as it comes out of the oven! Or join Daniel to watch or help the milking of our dairy herd.
A lovely thing about Olepangi is that you are free to roam around the farm. For a small community donation, you can join our wonderful guide Mr Kariuki to walk wider through the community land. Learn about the history various tribes that live in the area including Maasai and Kikuyu and their rural lifestyle, the medicinal elements of the plants, the huge variety of birdlife and the huge changes of the landscape over the last 50 years or so. A chance to understand the local area, people and natural surroundings.
Massage and yoga
We’ve got a tent down by the river where Joy our Olepangi masseuse will pamper you with locally grown oils, lavender grown on the farm. Then relax in the shade of our trees by the Ngishishi river.
We have regular visiting yoga teachers from around the world. Join for asana and pranayama classes before lunch or an evening mediation under the stars. If this is a particular interest, contact us for availability and if we don’t have one in residence, we can arrange local instruction from one of the wonderful local teachers.
